Effective educational resources make positive connections with learners' knowledge, experience, and identity. Learning is an active process that involves many different kinds of connections. Consistent and quality learning resources are key to a successful teaching and learning experience.
At Deception Bay State School our families participate in a Student Resource Scheme (SRS).
Why does Deception Bay State School have an SRS program?
Providing a quality environment that enables teachers and students to engage in future connecting learning experiences is a fundamental principle of Deception Bay State School. Access to quality and consistent curriculum and learning resources is key to this principle. An SRS program enables parents to have confidence in the quality of resources required for student learning.
What is a Student Resource Scheme (SRS)?
An SRS is a service provided by the school to assist parents with a cost effective alternative to purchasing textbooks, resources, consumables and/or materials from elsewhere, through reduced prices gained from the school's bulk purchasing processes. These resources enhance the student's engagement with the curriculum. An SRS provides a convenient option that offers good value to participants and ensures participating students have access to the same standard of resources. Parents will need to provide these resources themselves if they choose not to participate in the SRS.
What does the Queensland Government fund in schools?
Under the Education (General Provisions) Act 2006 (Qld) (Section 50(2)), 'instruction' (e.g. teaching), 'facilities'
(e.g. buildings) and 'administration' (school operation costs) are met by the State at no cost to students. State funding for schools does not extend to individual student resources such as textbooks, equipment for personal use and items used/consumed by the student in the classroom.
What is included in the SRS?
At Deception Bay State School, we have designed an SRS structure based on the resources needed for each student to engage in the curriculum. Items included in the SRS are published in this document. Non participants in the SRS program are required to provide items on the Non Participant list.
How much do I need to pay to participate in the SRS?
In consultation with our P&C Association and with their endorsement, the Deception Bay State School annual SRS fee is a flat $85 for each student. The fee is based upon the value of the items in the scheme, this includes items that are:
- owned (generally equal to the cost for the school to purchase)
- used in class (as an average cost of resourcing the class)
If you are not satisfied that the SRS fee represents good value for money based on the inclusions, you may choose not to participate in the SRS. If that is the case, please complete a new Participation Agreement Form, indicating that you no longer wish to participate. If you choose not to participate, you will be provided with a detailed list of resources that you will need to provide for the student.Payment MethodPayment can be made via- QParents
