Beach Activities

This week, we successfully trialled a lunchtime visit to the waterfront with a small group of students. The trial was extremely positive, and we are excited to begin offering this experience as a regular lunchtime activity several times each week.

This initiative provides students with valuable opportunities to explore and connect with our local community and natural environment in a safe and supervised setting.

Permission forms will be sent home next week. If you would like your child to participate, please sign and return the consent form as soon as possible. Please note that students will attend on a rotating roster, and not all children will participate each day.

We look forward to expanding this wonderful opportunity for our students.

Celebrating Hearing Day at Deception Bay State School

Hi families,

On Wednesday this week, we conducted our Deception Bay State School whole-school hearing day. Across the day, our dedicated team screened the hearing of 59 students using the Sound Scouts iPad app. The day was filled with collaboration, care and a shared commitment to ensuring every student has the best possible opportunity to succeed in the classroom.

Why Hearing Matters:

Hearing plays a vital role in a child's development and learning. Students rely on their hearing to:

  • Follow instructions
  • Develop speech and language skills
  • Engage in classroom discussions
  • Build friendships and social confidence
  • Participate fully in learning experiences

Even mild or temporary hearing difficulties can impact a student's ability to access the curriculum. When hearing challenges go undetected, they can create barriers to literacy development, concentration, behaviour, and overall academic progress.

That's why proactive hearing screening is so important. By identifying potential concerns early, we can work closely with families and specialists to provide appropriate support. Early intervention helps reduce barriers to learning and ensures students are set up for success.

A Commitment to Reducing Barriers:

Deception Bay State School has an ongoing commitment to making sure hearing is not a barrier to learning. Whole-school initiatives like Hearing Day allow us to take a preventative and inclusive approach, ensuring that all students have equitable access to education.

The day was incredibly rewarding, with staff and community partners working together seamlessly to support our students. We extend a huge thank you to everyone involved in coordinating, managing and facilitating the screenings. Your expertise and teamwork made the day such a success.

Review Hearing Day:

A review hearing day will take place next Wednesday. Students who did not pass their initial screening will have the opportunity to be retested, and any students who were absent on our whole-school screening day will also be able to participate.
