At Deception Bay State School, we are continually looking for ways to improve our school and provide the best possible learning environment for our students.
One of the ways we are doing this is by increasing consistency in our school-wide routines. Consistent routines help reduce students' cognitive load—the amount of mental effort and working memory required to process information. When routines and expectations are the same across the school, students spend less energy working out what to do and can focus more on their learning.
Our current focus is on how students transition throughout the school. Consistent and calm transitions support learning by minimising disruptions, helping students remain focused and ready to learn. They also demonstrate respect for others by allowing classrooms and learning spaces to operate with minimal interruption.
By working together to establish these consistent practices, we are strengthening our connection to learning, to ourselves, and to our school community while creating a positive and supportive environment for all students.
