Minecraft Madness!

This week, Mrs Darben led the hosting of a Lorax Minecraft Madness challenge! Students from Moreton Downs, Humpybong, Deception Bay North, Us and our Year 4 cohort had a great time. Students collaborated and designed in a Lorax Minecraft world online. Designing characters, settings and scenes, the day was an amazing success!

Our students are amazing! Daily they proudly represent their families proudly making great choices. We want to show just how wonderful student behaviour is in a graphic. This graphic shows the % of students within the week shown who's choices never once needed a correction or consequence! This is fantastic! Our goal is 100% each week. As the term has settled, we are seeing a reduction in incidents and positive choices for all our students. Go team DBay!

Teaching Reading At Home

Preparing students to learn to read comes first from learning to speak and listen. We are using Promoting Literacy Development (PLD) to explicitly teach and track core language skills. A series of videos unpack early literacy skills explained by PLD.

To better understand how learning to read works, we are using a model called "Scarborough's Rope".

Peter Combe is coming to Deception Bay State School! May 30th. Peter Combe is Australia’s best known children’s singer/songwriter and the original King of the Kids. His achievements include 3 ARIAS for Best Children’s Album - Toffee Apple 1988, Newspaper Mama 1989, The Absolutely Very Best of Peter Combe (in Concert) 1992, 7 Gold & 2 Platinum Albums and 1 Gold DVD. 6 ARIA nominations all together. Recent national tours include Live It Up in 2017, Christmas 2018 and Greatest Hits 2020/2021. His 2021 Adelaide Fringe 8 concert season sold out. In 1987 he pioneered ABC for Kids, Australia's first kids music label. He’s sold over a million CDS & DVDs He presented BBC TV's Music Time recorded in London from 1977-1980 He performed 2 Sold Out shows at the Sydney Opera House Concert Hall in 1988 ‘Planet Earth 3rd from the Sun, an album in praise of Planet Earth and the wonders of the universe was released in August 2023. It is especially suited to middle primary kids and was nominated for an ARIA. A Frog in My Cheese Sandwich, his latest album was released in August 2024. Peter is distributed digitally by Universal Music and MGM Planet for CDs
